TITLE:   BUS MECHANIC

 

REPORTS TO:  DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION

 

JOB GOAL:  COMPLETE SERVICE, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF SCHOOL BUSSES AND ALL OTHER SCHOOL VEHICLES.

 

Performance Responsibilities

 

1.         The bus mechanic will adhere to all local, state and federal regulations.

2.         They will also adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by the Poplar Bluff Board of

            Education.

3.         The Poplar Bluff School District will employ two mechanics.  One will be designated as

            a head mechanic.  This person will be designated by the Director of Transportation.

4.         They will have on file a current health certificate, indicating they are in reasonably

            good health.

5.         Mechanics will hold a valid Missouri and Federal licenses, as required by law.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

1.         The bus mechanics primary responsibility is to maintain and repair all vehicles owned

            and operated by the school system.

2.         They will serve as a State Inspection Station for the purpose of inspecting annually

            all school busses and other school vehicles.

3.         They must be able to road test all repaired vehicles.

4.         Drive a bus route.

5.         They are responsible for all duties and responsibilities of regular bus drivers; except

            they are not to be reassigned to custodial or maintenance duties during the months

            school is not in session.

6.         Be responsible for any other duties assigned by the Director of Transportation.

7.         Must be physically able to lift and change bus tires.

8.         Must be physically able to assist or remove students from the bus in case of an

            emergency

Essential Functions of the Job - Bus Driver and/or Bus Mechanic

 

1.         A bus driver shall hold a valid school bus permit in accordance with section 302.272,       RSMo, and shall submit all driver's license numbers to the office of the superintendent         prior to the first day of school.

2.         A driver shall be at least 21 years old at the time he or she applies for a school bus

            permit.

3.         A driver shall be in good physical and mental health, free from communicable disease,

            and have normal use of both arms, hands, legs and feet.  Vision shall be at least 20/40

            in each eye, with correction if necessary.  A driver shall be able to distinguish the

colors of red, green and yellow.  Hearing shall be adequate to hear ordinary conversation.  A driver shall undergo a physical examination annually by a licensed physician, and shall present a signed physical examination certificate to the office of the superintendent prior to the first day of school.  For those drivers aged 70 and over, the school bus permit shall be renewed annually.  The driver shall pass the required examinations prior to receiving the renewed permit.

4.         Upon initial employment, all drivers must pass a drug test.

5.         All drivers shall participate in random drug testing.
