Title: Special Education Teacher ECH-12

 

SUMMARY: Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the educational program to enable students with special educational services to benefit from educational experiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned

  • Instruct individuals and groups of students in special education skill area.
  • Designs a classroom schedule to meet the needs of the students and fit within the structure of the school.
  • Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods based on the individual needs of students.
  • Monitors student progress in and outside of the special education room.
  • Maintains contact with parents of students
  • Serves as a member of the evaluation team, completing the required forms assigned.
  • Evaluates student progress, based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives, and directions.
  • Prepares report cards, IEP goals pages, classroom observations, and other forms as determined appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and trainings
  • Functions as a team member of the school professional staff and communicates effectively with all of members of the team, including school, family, physicians, and other agencies.
  • Provide input, implement, and evaluate an IEP for each student on the caseload given.
  • Able to move about the classroom to the student’s location
  • Able to lift and carry texts and classroom materials.
  • Able to perform other duties assigned by the administrator.
  • Able to physically restrain/subdue students with behaviors that could be a safety concern to staff or another student
  • Able to design/implement individual behavioral management plans.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree
  • Missouri teaching certificate in the area of responsibility
  • Knowledge of disabilities involved and special education process.

 

 

EDUCATIONAL SKILLS NECESSARY:

 

  1. Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in all academic areas and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

  1. Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of the student to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community.
  • Ability to speak clear and concisely in written and oral communication.
