The Poplar Bluff R-I School District is searching for a Senior Army Instructor for the JROTC Program.

Qualifications:

  • A retired officer, Chief Warrant officer from Active component, Reserve or Guard 
  • Have a 4-year degree
  • Obtain a phase one qualification through USACC (www.armyjrotc.com)
  • Pay is equivalent to active duty pay

The position is a unique opportunity to teach and mentor youth to become better citizens through curriculum and co-curricular activities, as well as the Junior Cadet Leadership Challenge which is a joint camp with other programs for a week in the summer.

TITLE:  JROTC INSTRUCTOR

 

 

Paragraph 6-43 of AR 145-2 identifies a few duties and responsibilities that an instructor is expected accomplish. The duties are often divided among the JROTC instructors, but each is expected to improve personal proficiency in all areas. The demands are great. The instructors must meet not only the Army requirements, but also adhere and respond to those of the school. Following is a brief list of some of the major job duties:

 

  1. Administer and manage the JROTC program effectively according to law, regulations, policies and principles.
  2. Actively recruit students to join JROTC; maintain enrollment at or above 100 cadets or a minimum of 10% of school enrollment.
  3. Achieve desired learning goals by teaching prescribed JROTC subjects listed in the Program of Instruction.
  4. Maintain proficiency in military subjects taught
  5. Modify and improve given instruction by remaining continuously alert to new and alternative instructional methods and motivational techniques.
  6. Maintain arms and supply facilities in strict compliance with Army security regulations.
  7. Comply to the letter with Army and school district safety guidelines in all instances when instructing, supervising, monitoring, accompanying or escorting cadets.
  8. Maintain student records as prescribed in the Department of the Army regulations and local policies.
  9. Insure facilities provided are adequate to support program.
  10. Prepare unit for formal inspections.
  11. Counsel cadets on their performance within the Corps of Cadets.
  12. Conduct a public affairs program directed at school and community to further enhance understanding of the JROTC program.
  13. Conduct training at JROTC summer camps and other duties prescribed by camp commander.
  14. Assist cadets in applying for Senior ROTC scholarships and service academy appointments.
  15. Set the appropriate example in decorum and cooperativeness, positive attitude and consistency for cadets and colleagues.
  16. Organize, develop and administer the JROTC program in assigned schools.
  17. Prepare and maintain administrative and support reference materials required to be available to schools.
  18. Draw, maintain and account for all property issued to the school; ensure sensitive items of equipment are secured.
  19. Organize, supervise and develop extracurricular activities to include color guard, drill teams, riffle teams, orientation teams and special programs.
  20. Assist in the review, organization and implementation of all technical data required to develop a military curriculum.
  21. Perform the duties of a classroom teacher (JROTC curriculum)
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Meet retention medical fitness and weight standards outlined in Army regulation 40-501. Personnel retired under Title 10 USC 1201 (physical disability retirement) will not be certified unless exceptional circumstances other than disability retirement warrant this action.
