JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: BUS DRIVER
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION
JOB GOAL: BUS DRIVERS WILL DRIVE DAILY THEIR PRESCRIBED ROUTES IN A SAFE AND PRUDENT MANNER, ALONG WITH OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES.
PAY COLUMN: BASE + .50
Performance Responsibilities
- Drivers will adhere to all local, state and federal regulations.
- They will abide by regulations set forth by the Poplar Bluff Board of Education.
- They will have on file a current health certificate indicating that they are in reasonably
good health.
- They must hold a valid Missouri and Federal licenses as required by law.
- Driver shall drive in a careful and prudent manner and in accordance with the Missouri
Motor Vehicle Laws.
- The driver is to conduct himself in a manner so as to exercise good influence over
pupils.
Duties and Responsibilities
- A driver shall keep his person neat and clean.
- Abstain from use of tobacco products on school busses and school property.
- Refrain from driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor, or other drugs.
- Serious student disciplinary problems will be referred to building principals and to
the Director of Transportation.
- Drivers shall observe carefully all signs, signals, rules of the road and courtesies
due others as provided by the motor vehicle laws of the state.
- Drivers shall not leave a loaded bus while motor is running.
- Keep inside of bus clean and comfortable.
- Will clean busses when told to by Director of Transportation.
- Drivers working under a twelve month contract may be assigned to work in the
custodial or maintenance force during the summer months.
- Be responsible for general bus lot duties when directed.
- Will keep all records considered necessary by the Director of Transportation.
- Bus drivers shall drive their assigned route without any deviation unless directed
by their supervisor.
- Will be responsible for driving on out of town trips as assigned by their supervisor.
- Be responsible for any other duties assigned by the Director of Transportation.
- Must be physically able to assist and remove students from the bus in case
of an emergency.
Essential Functions of the Job - Bus Driver
- A bus driver shall hold a valid school bus permit in accordance with section 302.272, RSMo, and shall submit all driver's license numbers to the office of the superintendent prior to the first day of school.
- A driver shall be at least 21 years old at the time he or she applies for a school bus
permit.
- A driver shall be in good physical and mental health, free from communicable disease,
and have normal use of both arms, hands, legs and feet. Vision shall be at least 20/40
in each eye, with correction if necessary. A driver shall be able to distinguish the
colors of red, green and yellow. Hearing shall be adequate to hear ordinary conversation. A driver shall undergo a physical examination annually by a licensed physician, and shall present a signed physical examination certificate to the office of the superintendent prior to the first day of school. For those drivers aged 70 and over, the school bus permit shall be renewed annually. The driver shall pass the required examinations prior to receiving the renewed permit.
- Upon initial employment, all drivers must pass a drug test.
- All drivers shall participate in random drug testing.
