Title: Kindergarten Teacher
Reports To: Building Principal
Job Goal: To create a flexible kindergarten program and kindergarten environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills,
Attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.
- Must hold a valid Missouri Teacher's Certificate in Elementary Education.
- Must adhere to all local, state and federal regulations.
- This person will abide by all rules and regulations established by the Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of
Education.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provides learning experiences in language arts, social studies, pre-reading, arithmetic, science, art, physical education and music to pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturities.
- Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and help the pupils make a satisfactory transition to school.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities without interfering with the naturally informal atmosphere of a kindergarten.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of pupils and keeps appropriate records.
- Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences to discuss the individual pupil's progress and interprets the school program.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils' solve health, attitude an learning problems.
- Creates and effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self selected professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides; maintains required inventory records.
- Ensures a comfortable room environment though control of heating, lighting and ventilation to the extent possible.
- Supervises pupils in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
- Fulfill reasonable supervisory and incidental duties, as assigned.
Essential Function of the Job:
- Must be able to bend, lift, and carry up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with teachers, students, administrators and other staff members.
- Must be able to read, understand and follow up on written orders and instructions.
- Must be able to move freely around the classroom.
- Must be able to stand and monitor the behavior of students.
- Any other duties assigned by the administrator.
Terms of Employment: School term. Salary will be determined annually by the Board of Education and the Superintendent.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions on the Board's policy on Performance Based Teacher Evaluation, adopted on April 19, 1985.
